Max Sparber is a historian, playwright, and arts critic in Omaha, Nebraska. Sparber is the former editor-in-chief of The Reader in Omaha, spent three years as an arts and culture columnist for City Pages in Minneapolis, and was the arts and culture columnist for MinnPost in Minneapolis.

His award-winning writing has appeared in dozens of publications, including MAKE Magazine, The Rake, Howlround, The Guardian, Minnesota Playlist, and Modern Drunkard Magazine. Additionally, Sparber edited and published two online magazines about the culture of the cocktail, called Daily Lush and The Bottle Gang.

As a playwright, Sparber has enjoyed more than 30 productions nationwide, and has received rave reviews from the New York Times, The New Yorker, and Variety. Sparber's short stories have been anthologized in The Best of Strange Horizons: Year One, and People of the Book: A Decade of Jewish Science Fiction and Fantasy.
